Heat on SunESports

3tigerswimmingThe heat…were is it? We are feeling what the rest of the worlds most populated places have already felt. No more heat from the sun. This does put a damper on Sunny Sports played in St. George and Mesquite.

I watched as the St. George Marathon ran in and ran out of town.

I saw the rich come into town and I remembered it’s “The World Senior Games”. (The Porsche’s, Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s and of course the one classic Rolls Royce convertible).

Berny Madoff was still not seen at the games. He has been trying to get the newest form of “steal your fellow sports members wallet” as an official Senior Games sport. He is still getting no support as the games finish up for this season.

With the earth moving the furthest from the sun…we will go into semi-retirement until next year when the sun heat comes out again.

Size matters: The World’s Largest Swimming Pool

This is HOT! Check out Tim’s Story below. They all say that size does matter! With the size of this pool, one lap a day and your done! The other great part about this is you get the water and the smells of an ocean whipping through your olfactories without the salt. Double cool!

Who needs the ocean anyway? This artificial lagoon and swimming pool in the San Alfonso del Mar resort in Chile is eight hectares in size and contains 250,000 cubic meters of water, equivalent in size to 6,000 standard domestic pools.Swimming_Pool

Swimming vs. Golf

PhelpsSwimming

With us today is coach and trainer for the master in swimming in San Diego, California. Kevin Koskellas’ points about golf and swimming are so true. I found this out while rehabbing from back surgery. I also found the same action Kevin mentions when I began playing golf again after back surgery. I like his insight and makes great points.

Recently, I have taken up golf, and I can’t help but notice the similarities between learning golf and learning swimming. Both are finesse sports that require large amounts of concentration and practice to get right, and it is unnecessary (and ill-advised) to gain great amounts of strength to make major improvements in either sport. Let’s look at some specific ways golf is like swimming:

1. It Starts with Head Position. In golf, you must keep your head still and look straight at the ball while you swing in order to make contact. In swimming, you must keep your head still and look straight down at the bottom of the pool while you rotate in order to get the most out of your stroke.

2. Concentration is Key. The moment you start thinking about more than one thing when you are about to hit the ball is the moment that something goes wrong. If I get 2 tips on my golf swing and I think about both of them the next time I tee up, I tend to have an underwhelming result! The same goes for doing the swimming drills. As a coach, if I give a swimmer several things to think about, inevitably, nothing will go right. The idea is to concentrate on one aspect, practice it, master it, and move on.

3. The Fewer Strokes, The Better. When improving your score in golf, you want to take fewer strokes to get the ball in the hole. To improve your swim (especially open water), you want to take fewer strokes per length, in order to utilize your energy for the entire swim or triathlon.

4. Follow Through is Important. When you hit the ball, it is important that you follow through all the way with your club. In freestyle swimming, to get the most out of your stroke, you must extend your arm and glide.

5. Power Comes from the Core. Your arms and legs themselves do not need to be incredibly powerful to have success in either sport. With both sports, the power comes from the core- abdominal muscles, lower back, and hips. Legs are used more for stabilization than to propel you forward in swimming. Legs in golf are also used more for stabilization, rather than for more powerful strokes.

Both sports can also be frustrating, but with practice, patience, and persistence, swimming and golf can both present you with a meditative-like form of exercise that I have found to be both fulfilling and fun!

I would agree with the meditative part of swimming, but because of the perfectionist in me, there are time when golf may not be considered as meditative as I would like. Zen me into a birdie making master…that’s what I am looking forward to. Also, a few Eagles!

TigerDriver

Golf
Tiger wins his 71st title, and had a course record 62 on Saturday that was the most exciting round of golf ever watched. So, Tiger is back on form. When will his next win come?

Football
College and Pro football has started and after two weeks of college football we say Oklahoma beaten by BYU, OSU looses and many of the hoarders of the top ten (usually BCS teams) still have a position in the top 10-15 with one loss over teams with unbeaten records and tougher schedules. Even though the excuse that they use against western teams other than USC is they don’t play a tough enough schedule. Well when I looked at the teams that were played by the BCS team the last two weeks ever one but two were week as they come. They were complete blow outs. Utah still has the nations longest winning steak, and we will see what Colorado will bring this weekend.

What you say?

When will Tiger’s next win come?

Which BCS team will stumble again?

Brett Farve addicted to football? | America’s addicted to Brett Farve?

If Las Vegas sports books look at the return of Brett Favre to the Minnesota Vikings as anything but what it is, then they to are getting sucked in by the public’s perception themselves. Read on.

Las Vegas sports books are making minor adjustments on the Minnesota Vikings after the NFL team signed quarterback Brett Favre on Tuesday.

“It’s a slight upgrade for the Vikings,” Las Vegas Hilton sports book director Jay Kornegay said. “At first, we were not going to move anything. But we looked at it, and the Vikings were already a popular team, and Favre will make them more popular than ever. We made some subtle changes.”

The Hilton changed the Vikings from 31/2- to 4-point road favorites over the Cleveland Browns in the regular-season opener. The Vikings’ odds to win the NFC dropped from 8-1 to 7-1, and their odds to win the Super Bowl dropped from 18-1 to 15-1. Minnesota’s regular-season win total moved from 9 (over minus-140) to 91/2 (over minus-120).

“In reality, I don’t think Favre is going to make that much difference,” Las Vegas Sports Consultants oddsmaker Jason Been said. “It’s more just public perception instead of reality. I just don’t believe Favre is healthy. He completely wore down in the second half of last season with the Jets.”

So, is it me or is everyone tired of the Brett Favre’s retireing or he can’t give up the game. He loves it to much. That sound to me like a addition to the game.

Isn’t it just like the rookie athlelete who just went pro, and has a cocaine problem that was brushed aside because he is so promising.

When caught the first time he says he is going to quit, but he is addicted to the rush, the high…and when it is gone then he needs some more to give him his rush again.

Everyone who is a adrenaline junkie could probably agree with me that once the rush has passed, it was great…now what is my next endever to get some more adrenaline?

Maybe it is a broken record, but maybe it isn’t for the Minnesota fans.

Vote in my newest poll.

Will Brett Farve be more to the Vikings season, or will Michael Vick have more influence to the Philly’s hopes of getting to the Big Game… The Superbowl?
